A Sunday Quote

"Successful evangelism involves not only harvesting, but sowing and watering, too. We must never think that because a nonbeliever remained unconvinced by our case that our apologetic has failed. For one encounter is not the end of the story." - William Lane Craig

  1. Here are some more from him;

    "The person who follows the pursuit of reason unflinchingly toward its end will be atheistic or, at best, agnostic." William Lane Craig (http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2008/july/13.22.html?start=5).

    "Should a conflict arise between the witness of the Holy Spirit to the fundamental truth of the Christian faith and beliefs based on argument and evidence, then it is the former which must take precedence over the latter, not vice versa."

    [William Lane Craig, Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics, (Revised edition, Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 1994), p. 36.]

    "Therefore, when a person refuses to come to Christ it is never just because of lack of evidence or because of intellectual difficulties: at root, he refuses to come because he willingly ignores and rejects the drawing of God's Spirit on his heart. No one in the final analysis really fails to become a Christian because of lack of arguments; he fails to become a Christian because he loves darkness rather than light and wants nothing to do with God."

    [William Lane Craig, Reasonable Faith: Christian Truth and Apologetics, (Revised edition, Wheaton, IL: Crossway, 1994), pp. 35-36.]

    So atheists are actually simply lying. Amazing.

  2. Mark,

    Regarding the first quotation, please read the context:

    "While most of the original Enlightenment thinkers were themselves theists, the majority of Western intellectuals today no longer considers theological knowledge to be possible. The person who follows the pursuit of reason unflinchingly toward its end will be atheistic or, at best, agnostic."

    He's attributing the view articulated in his last sentence to "the majority of Western intellectuals today." He's not himself espousing that opinion.

    On the second quotation, this is a point on which WLC and I disagree.

    As for the third quotation, this view is consistent with the Bible, which states that "The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse." (Romans 1:18-20)

    The Bible also states that "If [men] do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead,” (Luke 16:31).

  3. Great Quote. We never fail when we explain or introduce someone to God. Whether or not they choose God at that moment, you planted a seed in there mind. I have had many people come back to me years after trying to convince them of the presence of God and tell me they were now believers.
