Brian Auten over at Apologetics 315 recently interviewed myself and Calum Miller about Apologetics UK, so please feel free to have a listen and let us know if you want to get involved with our goals and mission. The audio can be found HERE.
In short our view is that UK Christians are largely not equipped fully for mission here in the UK, apologetics is by no means 'the' answer...but it is part of the answer. I like to explain apologetics as Tim Keller does, the Gospel is the what and apologetics is the why. Many times Christians answer the why questions with the what, which can be counter-productive. So when we talk to someone about Jesus and the gospel and they ask us quite reasonably why should they believe us, thats when the practicalities of apologetics are needed. What we're suggesting is that we have an obligation to be prepared (1 Peter 3:15) to deal with peoples objections to the Gospel, lovingly, reasonably and persuasively. Thats all.
The UK is largely secular, aswell as having many growing cities who are home to large Muslim populations and clearly culturally post-Christian. This means that its no longer culturally exceptable to just quote the Bible and expect people to listen, we must provide justification for our claims and acknowledge that a post-Christian culture wants to know what relevance Jesus and the Gospel has in their lives, why Christianity deserves their time, and why it makes more sense to follow a Christian world-view over that of a humanistic or alternative religious view of the world.
We seek to serve you and want to do our part to equip Christians in the UK to be effective missionaries and amabassadors for Christ (2 Corinthians 5:20).
